Ellen Smith
"Constructive, always constructive, whether the methods she needed to use was big stick or love" ~ Personality of Ellen Smith
Ellen Smith was a faculty member at the University from 1877 to 1902. She was the first female professor on campus and an instructor at the Latin School, which was the University's preparatory school. She felt that the Classics, along with discipline and personal hygiene, helped childtren to develop into respectable adults. She was one not easily crossed, and therefore her ideals were, for the most part, upheld while she remained at the University.
