Avery, on Academic Freedom

The recent discussion in the Omaha papers of academic freedom in the University especially the attitude of the authorities towards professors who wish to discuss the European War has created only a languid interest in Lincoln where the attitude of the institution in regard to freedom of speech is so well known. The emphatic disclaimer by all the professors concerned of any attempt to "muzzle" them leaves nothing further to be said of a personal nature though as a subject of discussion freedom of speech never loses its vital interest.
