Major in the United States Army in the Chemical War Service Department. "Major Avery will have charge of the university relation section of the chemical warfare service of the army. His work will be to look after the training of chemists in the universities of the country for war purposes. His training for the place is ideal. He has long been known as an eminent chemist. It was in this work that he acquired the reputation which made him chancellor of the university.
