December 15, 1917.

To the Faculty Administrative Officers and other Employees of the University:

The splendid success of the Red Triangle drive encourages the hope that the coming Red Cross membership campaign may be equally successful. This campaign will be for $1.00 memberships for the year 1918 and is independent of previous contributions or donations to the Red Cross fund. It is the intention of the national organization that the membership fees shall cover the entire overhead expenses of the American Red Cross in its world wide activities os that donations to the Red Cross will not have to bear any protion of the burden of management. Having contributed your membership fee your later donations will be spent exclusively for relief of suffering soldiers or for the aid of the civilian population in the stricken countries. It is especially desired that the membership include everyone on the yearly or monthly pay roll of the institution. In case however the canvass falls short of this amount it is planned through a later special subscription among those who have already given generously to raise as many dollars as there are missing names fromt he list. Professor Scott has consented to act as chairman of the committee in charge of the canvass at the city campus while Professor Filley will act in the same capacity at the farm campus. Here is an opportunity for the University again to show its practical patriotism. Will not everyone embrace with enthusiasm the opportunity to place his name on this honor roll?

Very respectfully submitted,

S. Avery Chancellor.
