Teams from 1990-2001

Within the 1990s and the early 2000s UNL Men’s Swimming and Diving continued to hold dominance in the Big 8 Conference.  In 1992 the Men and Women's Swimming, which also held a number of Olympians such as Penny Heyns, was formed into one swimming team under coach Cal Bentz.  The Men's Team won the Big 8 Championships every year until they entered the Big 12 Conference in 1996.  They ultimately held a 15 year winning streak under head coach Cal Bentz.  Once they entered the Big 12 Conference, they continuously got second place to the University of Texas, who dominated Men’s Swimming and Diving within the Conference.  During this era a great number of international and Olympic athletes swam for UNL, including Adam Pine from Australia.  Unfortunately, in 2000 the University of Nebraska brought a number of NCAA violations against the team, which forced the coaching staff to quit or retire.  These violations combined with financial and legal incentives led the UNL Athletic director, Bill Bryne, to disband the UNL Men’s Swimming and Diving Team in 2001.
