Peter Williams
Peter Williams is a South African native who swam for Nebraska in 1988. During his time swimming at Nebraska Peter broke the World Record for the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 22.18. However, Peter's record was not recognized for a number of years due to the apartheid in South Africa, which also keep Peter from competing in the Olympic games for some years. He finally was allowed to compete in 1992. Unfortunately, Peter would never take a gold medal at the Olympics despite his world record time due to shoulder problems. Today he coaches swimming in South Africa (Bentz).
