Bryan's Many Causes

William Jennings Bryan gained national recognition and his initial presidential nomination in 1896 with his passionate support of free silver.  Throughout his other political elections and endeavors, he supported many other political causes such as anti-imperialism, government ownership of banks and railroads, trust-busting, prohibition, and anti-Darwinism.  While some viewed Bryan’s causes as populist, these cartoons reveal that some questioned whether Bryan support was sincere of politically expedient.
