Bohemian Council of Higher Education
Matice Vyššího Vzdělání
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
To the Honorable Chancellor and Regents
of the State University of Nebraska,
Lincoln, Neb.
Greetings!
We, the assembled delegates at the first Convention of the Bohemian Council of Higher Education, representing the foremost national Bohemian organizations which maintain the work of the Council, herby express the sincere appreciation of the Bohemian people in the United States for the work of the University of Nebraska in establishing the Department of Slavonic languages and literatures and placing it on a firm basis.
The cultural as well as the practical value of the study Of the Bohemian (the first of the Slavonic languages introduced into the curriculum of the University) cannot be over-estimated, and we heartily commend the action placing the Bohemian among the languages of modern Europe which are formally recognized as fulfilling the modern language requirements of your esteemed institution.
In partial recognition of the earnest work accomplished by the students in the Department of Bohemian, we have established various prizes of valuable books of reference to the students completing prescribed courses with honors. The plan of these prizes we have sent to the Registrar, and we request the publication of same.
It is our hope that the department will receive every encouragement and assistance in extending the field of its usefulness as we have every assurance that it will render most valuable service to the people of Nebraska.
We pledge for the Department and for the University of Nebraska our unanimous support and heartiest commendation.
