The stadium drive was started October 16, 1922 with a campaign among the students to raise $90,000. By the end of the week, the students had pledged $102,750.
There was an old time rivalry among the colleges to see which one could go the most over its quota in the drive. The air was full of the drive, no one could talk or think of anything else.
One of the main appeals during the entire campaign was that of loyalty to those who had sacrificed their lives in the great struggle. The stadium was erected as a monument to them, and this was the keynote of many of the speeches made on the subject.
