This article was on the front page of the following a rumor of a University Ku Klux Klan forming on the UNL campus. The feeling on campus from students and faculty is anxiety, as it drew immediate response from Chancellor Avery. Only a portion of this article is transcribed.

RUMOR KLAN UNIT TO BE FORMED HERE
Order From Lincoln Province Committee Denies Any Post Established.
OFFICIALS FROWN ON PLAN
University Rule Regarding Secret Membership Societies May Prove Snag.
Is there a University Ku Klux Klan unit at the University of Nebraska? This is a much discussed question on the college campus. A statement issued Monday afternoon by Chancellor Samuel Avery discouraged membership in the organization. An "order" purporting to be issued from the Lincoln Province of The Klan declared "that no unit be established at the University of Nebraska."
Campus rumors, however, is to the effect that a strong effort is being made to organize a University chapter here.
No Attempt to Organize
One in touch with the Ku Klux Klan and the doings of the Lincoln province stated Monday afternoon that there was no effort being made to organize a chapter of the organization in the University of Nebraska. He said:
"Although there are many students who are members of the Klan and in view of the fact that there will probably be more in the future, there is no attempt being made to organize a local Klan in the University here.
"In fact the average university student is too young to become a member. The Klan is not a young man's organization."

Chancellor Issue Statement
Chancellor Avery late Monday afternoon issued an unofficial statement in which he discouraged the organization of a unit at the University of Nebraska.
The Nebraska university executive declared that he had made no personal investigation into the workings of the Klan but he was led to believe that such an organization by the students on the University of Nebraska campus would not be beneficial to the institution.
Meet University Rule.
Any effort to organize a unit on the campus will meet the rule passed by the university senate clamping the lid down on societies whose membership is secret.
The following rule was passed by the university senate:
"Section 1. No student of the university shall retain membership in any society, fraternity or organization in the university whose membership is secret, concealed or not made public in the usual way."
"Section 4. Any student convicted of violating any of the provisions of section 1 shall be suspended or expelled from the university. Any conduct on the part of the members of the teaching or official bodies of the university clearly tending to support or encouragestudents in the violation of that section shall be deemed an inpropriety." Passed by a unanimous vote of the university senate April 29, 1909.
