GIRLS ANNUAL CONTEST
DRAWS A BIG CROWD

ALTHOUGH DENIED ADMISSION,
BOYS SEE MEET.

SEVERAL GOOD RECORDS MADE

Baseball Game, Track Events and
Relay Race Were Features of the
Meet—Band Furnished Music.

Yesterday afternoon occurred the girls' field meet, which resulted in the display of much interest from the comparatively large audience, and some good records were made on the part of the feminine athletes.

The different contests consisted of a baseball game which was won by the freshman by a score of 28 to 14 against the sophomores; a twenty-five yard dash, which was won by Miss Lottie Savage, Edith Shank second and Alice Eason, third; time, three and three-fourths; a fifty yard dash, won by Miss Florence Simmons, Ollie Sturdevant, second, and Ruth Sheldon, third; time, seven and one fifth; a basketball throw, won by Miss Lottie Savage, distance, seventy-seven feet; a high jump, won by Miss Hazel Robinson, height, four feet and two inches. The last event was the relay race, won by the sophomores, juniors second, freshmen third, seniors fourth; time one and three-fifths.

Law Students Interested.

On account of the great excitement on Nebraska Field, many of the law students were called away from their cases to see what was going on—from the third story windows of U. Hall. The boys got so excited that Miss Thompson, the law librarian, was forced to call them away from the window.

The engineers also, from the windows of the Engineering building,took much interest in the events, and loudly applauded when ever a record was broken or any girl made a good showing. It might be said here for the benefit of anyone who might not know, if such be the case, that the boys were not allowed on the field and that is the reason why the windows overlooking the field were so popular.

On the whole, it is thought by many of the girls that this meet was superior to the one of last year, as things went off better and better records were established. While the audience was not so large as was expected in regards to the "female fans," the band, with its sudden increase in size, made up the deficiency with its music and hilarity.

Any University girl was allowed in the events instead of only physical education girls of the normal department, as last year. A total of 139 entries by eighty girls took part in the meet
