FINE TWO BEER RAID STUDENTS
Warren Crawford and Fred Wickman, university students, were found guilty of illegal possession of liquor and fined $100 each by Justice of the Peace E. G. Maggi in Lincoln late Thursday.
Crawford testified he was the only one of the five students taken in the raid Saturday night who lived at the beer apartment across the street from the university. He testified the beer and alcohol found in the apartment were his, and the other students just came to visit.
Wickman was found guilty on testimony of police that he had carried alcohol out of the place.
George Cook, Jack Calkins and Max von Bargen testified they just dropped in for a visit. One said he came for a book, not for beer. These three were freed by Magistrate Maggi.
Captain Weygint of the Lincoln police morals squad testified he found 100 bottles of beer, between 80 and 90 empty bottles, a gallon of alcohol and many empty alcohol cans and bottles.
The five students all have been suspended from the university for the rest of the term, as was Steve Hokuf, star athlete, another tenant in the apartment. - Source
