My dear sir:
Being assured by able medical advisers that I cannot continue at the head of the university without grave and immediate danger to my health, permit me to tender to the regents my resignation of the chancellorship to take effect at the end of December 1908.
I seize the occasion to express to the regents present and past with whom I have served and to my esteem colleags[sic] in the teaching force my gratitude for the uniform kindness they have shown me and the pleasure I have had in working with them for the advancement of the university.
Yours with deep esteem,
E. Benj. Andrews, chancellor
