DR. ANDREWS TO RESIGN
Championship of Rockefeller Makes Him Unpopular at Nebraska University
LINCOLN, Neb., Jan. 9. Chancellor E. Benjamin Andrews of the University of Nebraska is said to have placed his resignation in the hands of the Regents of the institution, to take effect at the pleasure of the board. The resignation will probably not be accepted until the end of the present school year.
The report is that the resignation was brought about because of the unpopularity of the Chancellor's championship of Rockefeller and his solicitation of endowment funds from the Standard Oil magnate.
President Andrews is on the pension list of the Rockefeller Endowment Fund, and his future is provided for. He came to Nebraska University during the days of free silver, which cause he championed, and it was because of that championship that Bryan and other silver people placed him at the head of the Nebraska institution.
