R. O. T. C. BAND HAS FIRST FIELD DRILL
Seventy-five Men Respond to Call; New Members, Chosen by Try-Outs, Are Announced
More than 75 men turned out Wednesday night when the University of Nebraska R. O. T. C. band held its first outdoor practice of the season on the drill field. Of these, 31 were new men in the band, a few of whom were freshman, but for the most part sophomores.
Tryouts for the new men have been held almost every day since the beginning of school in the Temple theater building, by Prof. W. T. Quick, director of the band. Many could not be accepted, due to the limit on the supply of uniforms. Uniforms will be the same as last year, and will be issued Sept. 29, in time for the first football game of the season, Oct. 1.
The first public appearance of the band will be this morning when it will play in front of Social Sciences building before heading the freshman parade to the coliseum where it will play for the initiation.
The new bandsmen:
Cornets: Gerald Brownfield, H. D. Cogswell, J. E. Schildneck, G. King, E. A. Holyoke, Paul Moorhead.
Basses: V. C. Daniels, Clayton Simmons, C. M. Justice
Flutes: Lawrence Tyler
Clarinets: Lawrence Collins, Arthur Morrill, H. Easton, Charles
