Steve Hokuf

Steve Hokuf grew up in the town of Crete, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a prolific athlete at the university, excelling in football, basketball and track. In 1931, an apartment he rented with two other students was raided by prohibition enforcement officials. Hokuf was not present at the time of the raid. Though not charged with any crime, Hokuf was suspended from school for the remainder of his spring semester due to his connection to the raid. His suspension resulted in his being declared ineligible for fall sports in 1931. Hokuf graduated from the University and played professional football for three years. He was named to the Nebraska Football Hall of fame in 1980 (Hokuf Named to Grid Hall).
