The UNL Head Coaches

Throughout the history of the UNL Men's Swimming team, the team has had thriteen head coaches.  Starting with Atheltic Director Luehering in 1922, the team went on to hold a number of head coaches such as Frank Adkins who coached the team in 1923, Frank Hunton in 1925 who created the first winning Nebraska Men's swimming team, and Rudolph Vogler who coached the team from 1929-1933. Kenneth Sutherland took over coaching for a year in 1934 and after him Jack Minor coached from 1935-1937 and managed to get Nebraska their first conference swimming title.  Richard Hagelin coached for a number of years from 1938-1941, Thomas Leeke in 1942, Ed Higginbotham in 1946, and Hollie Lepley who coached from 1947-1952 as well as 1954-1959 and who coached future coach, Cal Bentz.  Dick Klaas coached the team from 1960-1961 and 1964-1966, John Reta came to coach for an extended amount of time from 1967-78, and finally coach Cal Bentz, who began coaching breifly in 1962-1963 and began a permanent coaching position in 1978.  Coach Bentz was the last Men's swimming coach, coaching from 1978 till the NCAA violations in 2000.  Pictures were not provided of all the coaches, however many of them can be found in team pictures.
