Conclusion

As one can see from this exhibit the University of Nebraska-Lincoln had grown a very successful Men's Swimming program from 1922 till 2001.  Ultimately though as many college sports reach high levels of competition, so do their budgets.  Despite their success, programs such as Men's Swimming are likely to be cut because they are non-profit athletics.  Due to the sports inability to generate the kinds of revenue sports like Football do, most schools see cutting these programs as a good way meet budgetary constraints and fail into compliance with acts such as Title IX.  Thus, so long as institutions such as UNL want to remain competitive in big money sports on a national level, Olympic sports such as swimming will suffer despite their successes.
