Japanese-American Patriotism Articles

The newsletters also portray a sense of patriotism and loyalty to the United States. The emphasis on patriotism seen throughout the newsletters was a subtle way for the Japanese Americans to show that they were true Americans. They respected the place they lived as much as any other American and showed that through articles discussing flag ceremonies, supporting the first lady, and taking an interest in the rights promised to them by the Constitution of the United States. By showing the government that the internees were supportive of the United States, it made it more likely that they would be able to return to their homes once the war was over.
